Animal Restrictions and Conditions

The number of dogs allowed to be kept on a property depends on the size of property as per the table below:

Property <  450m2
1 dog allowed
Property > 450m2
2 dogs allowed
Property > 450m2
3 or more dogs allowed with exemption

Please indicate below if your property is over 450m2 and you would like to apply for an exemption.

Be A Responsible Animal Owner

REMEMBER:

  • All dogs must be registered with Council from 12 weeks of age.

  • You must renew your dog's registration every June, failure to renew will result in the issue of a Penalty Infringement Notice

  • Dogs born after 10 April 2009 must be microchipped

  • If you are found to be keeping an unregistered dog on your property, you will be in breach of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and a Penalty Infringement Notice may be issued.

  • An effective enclosure must be maintained to ensure your dog does not stray from the property.

  • When your dog is not being kept behind a fence, it must be on a leash or tethered to a safe and non-removable object

  • Your dog must not wander or be able to escape from your property.

  • Your dog must not bark excessively and cause a nuisance.

  • You must advise Council within 7 days of change to circumstances:

    • Ownership of dog;

    • If your dog dies; or

    • You move house, change your address or contact details.

  • Failure to renew your details will result in the issue of a Penalty Infringement Notice.

Dog Registration Fees

New registrations from 1 October onwards will benefit from a pro-rata fee of:

  • 75% 1 October to 31 December

  • 50% 1 January to 31 March

  • Full fee plus extended registration period from 1 April to 30 June

Council DOES NOT offer refunds on dogs that have left the Shire or are deceased.

* If you register your dog as an entire dog and during the registration period have the dog desexed, you are entitled to receive the difference in the abovementioned fees, based on a prorate basis (i.e. amount will vary depending on the amount of time lapsed from registration and desexing).

* Supporting documentation must be provided with this application when making payment.For Example: Sterilisation Certificate from Veterinary Surgery, Membership to Clubs/Associations.To be eligible for 'working dogs' status you will need to successfully complete an assessment form.Payments can be made in person during business hours at the following Council Service Centres/Agencies.

  2. If applicant is under the age of 18 years, the parent or guardian is deemed to be the keeper of the animal. 

  3. I have a suitable enclosure or adequate fencing to prevent my animal from escaping.
