GRANT GUIDELINES
Purpose of Event
Mareeba Shire Council is calling on local organisations to host a Seniors Morning Tea (or Afternoon Tea) in their local community during Queensland Seniors Month in October 2026.
The event should foster connection and positivity among our senior residents and be inclusive for all participants.
Mareeba Shire Council is hosting a Seniors Morning Tea at the Mareeba International Club on Friday, 16 October 2026. Council would also like to support events in communities outside Mareeba to ensure more residents can participate in Seniors Morning Tea celebrations across the shire.
Funding Available
Organisations can apply for a grant of up to $500 to host the Seniors Morning Tea with one application per organisation. There is limited funding and applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Key Dates
Friday, 21 August 2026 - Grant applications open
Sunday, 13 September 2026 – Grant application closes
Tuesday, 15 September 2026 – Applicants will be notified of outcome
Thursday, 17 September 2026 – Payment of successful grant applications
1-31 October 2026 - Queensland Seniors Month
Sunday, 25 October 2026 – National Grandparents Day
What you can spend your grant on
Catering
Entertainment
Venue Hire
What you cannot spend your grant on
General staff wages or organisational running costs
Administration fees including phone and postage charges
Capital works (e.g. building upgrades)
Permanent equipment or software purchases
Who can apply?
All eligible applicants must:
Be located in Mareeba Shire and located outside of Mareeba township. Mareeba Shire Council is hosting a Seniors Morning Tea at the Mareeba International Club on Friday, 16 October 2026 and would like to support events outside of Mareeba so more residents can participate in Seniors Month around the Shire.
How will your application be assessed?
Mareeba Shire Council will assess the applications based on:
An event that will celebrate senior residents and foster connection and positivity.
Located within Mareeba Shire but outside of Mareeba township.
Open to the general public
Held in October 2026 (Queensland Seniors Month)

Terms and conditions
All successful applicants must acknowledge funding from Mareeba Shire Council on all written, printed and digital marketing materials using supplied logos. Successful applicants must register their event on the Mareeba Shire Council Calendar. Mareeba Shire Council will also promote events through their Facebook page.
The Mareeba Seniors Morning Tea run by Council is a highly anticipated event and always books out weeks in advance. Successful applicants need to manage their own bookings.
